Georgian Music Festivals – The Way To Break Free

Every year, as the summer approaches, people are getting ready for different music festivals. Preparing means getting tickets ahead, taking even a vacation from work if necessary, to release some tension grown from working all year. Even though Georgia doesn’t have many festivals, there are a few exceptional ones that people eagerly anticipate going to each year.

4GB

4GB is an annual international electronic music festival, organized as a tribute to a pioneer Georgian DJ Gio Bakanidze since 2011. Headlined by German electronic musician Michael Mayer, Festival usually runs in May for two weekends. Since its beginning, 4GB has seen many locations and the Former Institute of Space Structures in Saguramo is praised by many as it gives its own unique vibe and ambience to it.

Tbilisi Open Air

Tbilisi Open Air is an annual music festival. With its 15 years of history, Tbilisi Open Air is widely considered as the biggest music festival in the Caucasus region. From 2016, the festival’s special location is “Lisi Wonderland”, an open air venue near Hippodrome Park. Every year, more than 70 local and international artists and bands perform on several stages. Guests are able to participate in lots of different entertaining activities while enjoying the music. Festive mood can be felt in every corner of the valley. 

 

eZo Festival

eZo Festival is an annual musical gathering organized by Mzesumzira Community. Located near Mtatsminda Park, the Festival stands out with its colorful and blissful atmosphere and positive vibes. It’s easy to notice festival guests as they mostly show up with glitters instead of usual make-up. Line up is always packed with prominent local DJ’s and invited international artists. Besides Festival days, Mzesumzira Community holds different events throughout the year, from Community Birthday to New Year Party. 

Summer Set

Summer Set is an electronic music festival founded in 2012. Since then the festival has presented many internationally successful artists, performing on Georgian scenes. Summer Set has its own and unique flexible concept, the festival changes its name according to the current season, thus the festival makes events with different titles, being Summer Set, Autumn Set, Winter Set and Spring Set. 

Art-Gene Fest

Art-Gene Fest is an annual folk music and traditional crafts festival. Headlined by famous Georgian bands, the festival represents traditional folk music, gathering acapellas and choirs from all over the country. 

Since 2004, Art-Gene group has held regional outdoor festivals around historical monuments in corresponding corners of Georgia, but the main venue of the festival is Tbilisi’s Ethnography Museum, an open-air territory featuring houses and traditional living characteristic of various Georgian regions. 

 

Komorebi

Komorebi is an electronic music festival founded in 2018. Since then organizers have tried to explore new locations close to the shoreline, resort-like spaces in the western Georgia. Although the main emphasis is on electronic music, fest crew makes it more diverse and attractive for guests by extending line-ups with different genres of music, live bands and choreographic performances, yoga activities and fun zones.
